Partridge feathers

Post by Southshore » Wed Jun 15, 2022 2:21 pm

I use a lot of partridge hackles for sedges and nymphs. The quality of these feathers in NZ in my opinion are no better than floor sweepings. Even Hungarian ones which was a bit of a surprise and this is simply not good enough. I am currently looking for a partridge breeder here in Canterbury so I can source some quality feathers. If anyone knows of a local breeder, please let me know. I also use partridge quill feathers for wingcases and legs so a pelt might not go astray. Sorry about the quality of the photo, I only have the camera on my mobile. cheers.

Yes the skins are the way to go for good feathers. From time to time I've had the english partridge skins, but they are hard to come by, do have the Hungarian skins currently, pricey, but they have the full range of feathers

Thanks Steve, will see how it goes. Looks snowy down your way, you might have to spend some time in the hot pools. cheers
