Kakapo Brook needs help Please sign the petiton
A plea for help from Serge up in Hamner over the application for a resource consent that will take 1600 lps from this little spawning stream.
The application is very short on detail so gives no confidence that the stream will be protected, from the size of the stream in the photo it's hard to see where they can ring the 1600 lps from, the lack of detail means we should all oppose this in it's current form.
Please sign the petition and make a submission against the proposal
An overview
And the resource consent application

Signed! I bloody hate seeing anything that alters the natural flow of rivers.
Having my own worries over that one as we speak. How can a lovely stream like the Cardrona Stream have a reasonable flow in the upper section then as you get to the mid section, there is just a dry river bed and center pivot irrigation units are going full tilt?? Not cool people, so not cool!

Thank you Fraser!
I google the cardron stream and found this, looks like it's pretty detailed, a lot of reading but may give some clues as to what is going on with that stream

Thanks for that Steve. Don't know why i hadn't done the same myself earlier?
Im having a chat with F&G about the issue this afternoon. Il find out if there is anything that can be done by groups like ourselves to assist in ensuring a solid minimum flow is attained, as god knows there is non right now.
One of out F&G team is working very hard on the exact same issue on the Lindis river. Hopefully his experience on this issue will help when it comes to the Cardrona?

Signed, not sure what good a signature from a UK address can do.... But I hate seeing these wonderful freshwater environments damaged... Many of the UK chalk streams are in chronic states due to over abstraction from historic licences, it would be a sad state if you were to emulate our mistakes.
