Awesomeness from Orvis - the New Helios 3 is now in NZ

Helios III from Orvis

For a long time the flyshop has been like 'a pub with no beer' - although a specialist fly fishing shop - we haven't had a premium fly rod to offer our customers (and believe be it wasn't through a lack of trying...) So are very please to be able to offer some true awesomeness from Orvis;

Accurate from Anywhere

We are very pleased to be able to offer these premium Fly Rods from Orvis;

Orvis Hellios III Fly Rod: "Fast is fine, but accuracy is everything." - Wyatt Earp

Anglers know the same from hard-won experience. In fly fishing, accuracy is everything. No one else has ever approached rod design with the express intent of increasing accuracy. You hear about power, sensitivity, and lifting power. What if you could have all of that plus extreme accuracy? By strategically reinforcing the rod and increasing hoop strength we prevented the rod from ovalizing when flexed, damping the vibration as the rod unloads. That way the line releases with significantly reduced tip swing. Without all that noise at the tip, the line takes a truer path to the target.

Remarkably, even with the reinforcements, the swing weight is lighter than in previous Helios generations! Problem Solved, Unmatched Accuracy, now served in two flavours:

Helios 3F - "F" is for feel. It's the rod for short to medium distances - out to 60 feet. You'll feel every nuance of the rod when you cast.

Helios 3D - "D" is for distance, your new weapon for high winds, higher line speeds and big flies. It's for pounding big streamers with sinking lines or heaving large nymphs in a fast flowing river. No matter which rod you choose, Helios is designed to significantly reduce the variables at the point of release, focusing energy to the intended target. No matter what happens behind you, the energy of the forward cast is crisply released through a tight window created by the most significant reduction in horizontal and vertical tip frequency ever developed.

* Covered by The Orvis 25-year guarantee - To repair or replace no matter the reason.
* Helios 3 rods are proudly made in Manchester, Vermont, USA.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

No cast ever thrown is identical to any other cast ever thrown. The variables of caster, rod, and conditions are too great. Helios 3F and 3D were designed to significantly reduce the variables at the point of release focusing the energy of the cast to the intended target. No matter what happens behind you the energy of the forward cast is crisply released through a tight window created by the most significant reduction in horizontal and vertical tip frequency ever conceived. It is a rifle in a world of muskets and it autocorrects the variables of the cast to the target with incomparable precision. (see figure 1A/1B)

This was accomplished with a strategically reinforced blank that is stronger, yet remarkably has a lighter swing weight than previous Helios rods. This increased hoop strength prevents the blank from ovalizing when flexed, (see figure 2A/2B) damping the vibration as the rod unloads and the line is released forward with significantly reduced sine waves (see figure 1A/1B) taking a truer path to the target. This increased strength also makes the Helios 3 stronger and more durable with an 85" deflection distance to breakage as compared to 54" for Helios and 72" for Helios 2. (see figure 3)

Great news Steve. I just picked up an Orvis Mirage reel second hand the other day, and I have to say I'm super impressed with the quality and design.

Orvis is a brand that doesn't seem to have been pushed much here in NZ, but I'm thinking it should be!

Bucking trends in fly fishing since 1970!

I still haven’t had a chance to fish or even cast the H3, but was chatting with a friend who was raving about it... sounds like a sweet rod. Sure they’ll do well Steve
