Hiya,

Over the years, other than wet wading, I've come to realise the waders I most prefer for my style of fishing were some lightweight rubber thigh waders.

Are similar waders available in NZ anymore and, if so, where?

In the past I've used -
Neoprene chest waders which I found too hot and way too smelly,
PVC chest waders with a lifespan measured in minutes,
Chest high breathables resulting in endless failures in sock feet and wading boots, plus and a pain to get into and out of,
Wading wet with tramping boots or enclosed toe sandals (the latter are great on a hot day).

But old style lightweight rubber thigh waders - can one find these nowadays in NZ :?:

Cheers

PvE

Hate to say it but I reckon your memory paints a more rosy picture than they actually were? Bloody awful things, is how I remember them.

This reminds me of a mate who longed for a Ford Charger like he had in his youth. Raved on about its amazing handling and mind bending acceleration etc.. He spent a couple of years searching till he found a full restored one with the largest motor that they came out with. HE purchased it and had to pay a fortune to have it shipped to where he lived. He was in love with this car! Second weekend of ownership, he pulled up along side his wife at the lights. She was in there very mediocre people mover. When the lights went green.....she left him standing and by a long way mind. Three weeks later that car was up for sale.

Here ends my tale of warning! ;)

Best option was Simms Convertible breathable IMO. I had to buy my last pair in from the states as Manic weren't bringing them in. Seems like now Simms have stopped making convertibles? Silly move IMO as they were very comfy in warmer weather, yet still covered to a chest version when you needed to go deep.

There is a company in Australia that make them.

I've had them in the past and they work well.

Good protection from Snake Bites.

DryLine Waders still offer their Extreme Thigh Wader. You may even recognise Peter Hart there - its rumored that he is the machinist/ assembly person for DryLine neoprenes now.

Peter has been around the tackle trade a long time (Cromb and Merritt --> FIshermans Loft/ New Brighton Sports and its many post earthquake shifts to Hornby then Templeton) - not sure how he picked up his neoprene wader assembly skills so suggest that you inspect the product carefully if you find him.
