Toxic algae in Canterbury rivers

Post by Shingalia » Fri Feb 02, 2024 8:52 am

Stuff report (2 Feb 2024) states: "Algal bloom prompts health warning" . Apparently 11 South Canterbury rivers are affected by toxic algae.

Stuff makes no mention of what caused the algae, although the official warning notes "available nutrients" like nitrogen and phosphorus, combined with low flows, are to blame.

Now I wonder where the "available nutrients" came from.
