Fur & feathers you absolutely couldn't live without

Post by Southshore » Fri Oct 26, 2018 2:30 pm

Hare .. H&C, hare's ear spider, and I couldn't live without the latter.
Rabbit .. dubbing for collars etc, great movement, Galahs depend on it.
Possum.. it's used to create nymphs for a good reason
Seals fur .. If you want tough, this is tough.

Hungarian Partridge .. best in the business for nymph & emerger patterns
Pheasant Tail .. Frank's 66 year old nymph and still going strong
Peacock Herl .. nymph or terrestrial dry fly bodies. Versatile
Furnace Hackles: sell the house
Grizzly hen Hackles: how else am I supposed to make an Adams?

If I was a Spartan, with these materials I could build everything I want. Of course hooks, wires, beads and half of Spotlight's craft section would help.

Feel free to add to the list.

Bucktail, elk hair, squirrel ( superior in my view to Hare poll) GP tippets and crest, CDC, CdL, and Jungle Cock. To name but a few.

I really can’t live without anything...... 8-)

It's actually amazing just how little you really need for the freshwater stuff.

Looking at the above posts, you'd be hard pressed to not catch fish on those materials.
All the natural stuff works brilliantly.

I'd add a piece of foam, some poly yarn and more importantly my beloved marabou to the list.

Black Foam
Tungsten Beads
#%# Dubbing
Pheasant Tail
Deer Hair

Any road kill that got hair or fur is fair game.
