In addition to sending out emails, there is a petition that I came across.

https://www.parliament.nz/en/pb/petitio ... nservation

I've signed, but I don't know how many signatures are required before any attention is paid to it.

No it's not, writing letters to the government is more sensible, but we'll take any means or action to stop this proposed Bill.

You're continual ignorance is profounding..........

If this amendment is going to be stopped it is going to required a collective approach by all stakeholders who have a vested interested in fishing for freshwater gamefish, be it guides, shop owners, lodges, towns that get income directly or indirectly from fisherman/woman and licence holders.
It may seem dramatic or over the top reaction but just as the hunters have found out recently re Eugenie Sage Tahr control plan where she tried to bully her way through no consultation with stakeholders and found out there is a collective voice among hunters in the Tahr liaison group and so there should be with the fresh water fishing people.

These are line in the sand moments where we need to step up as a group to show numbers of stakeholders who have skin in the game but also to show the social impact and the economic impact of decisions such as these, as well as (and I know some wont like this bit) the tourism dollar that comes with having great fishing.

My 10 cents worth anyway, Im new to fly fishing but not to life and I have got some pretty good advice from members on here particularly Fraser who has been free with his time in replying to my emails. Great fun fly fishing.

A. Jim - you really shouldn't berate persons as you have done so - you remind me of someone else on this forum recently (who appears to be keeping his head down), and others in the past who were intent on giving us their opinion come hell or high water.

B. Maybe he’s old like me, and doesn’t believe that the request for submissions has been carried out in a proper manner by Fish and Game…

If this had happened 10 years ago F&G would not have notified their 110,00 stakeholders via a release on their web site, and through social media. They would have mailed us all a letter, and I cannot help but think, that by choosing the method of delivery they have, they are going to miss informing a third of stakeholders. That’s the (typically) older group of people, who don’t have access to the web, or have no intention of seeking out info on the web.

You could argue that’s it the other 70% that F&G want to target, time will tell by the number of submissions made. But – I think that when it comes down to it – to mail out a release would have cost F&G $132K, so this is the new reality?

Andy looks like you have bigger issues to worry about.
After reading the latest edition of your club magazine it seems you’ll be needing a new editor.
It’s a pity, because he was doing a BANG-UP job with the magazine and it was probably the best fishing club magazine going around. People like that are hard to come by.
Seems your committee and President gave him a bad deal.
Maybe you should look at replacing them, instead of spending your energy on this forum.

Got this reply to my email, hope others received it as well.
The only positive reply so far. :)

"Dear Jim
Thank you for your email regarding the Conservation (Indigenous Freshwater Fish) Amendment Bill. National shares your concerns.
As we have seen recently over tahr, Conservation Minister Eugenie Sage has shown she does not like to consult with recreationists before she makes her decisions. That’s why National supported this Bill at first reading in Parliament because it is an important issue and we wanted recreationists and fishers to be able to have their say at Select Committee.
Like you, we agree that indigenous freshwater fish deserve protection. However, National has some over-arching concerns and our support moving forward will be dependent on these issues being addressed. In particular, as to how far this new regime will impinge on private landowner’s rights with respect to habitat/catchment protection and recreational fishing.
We will be taking a detailed look at this Bill during the Select Committee process. But it is fair to say we have significant concerns with the legislation in its current form and we are unlikely to support the bill in its current form going forward.
The closing date for submissions to the Select Committee is Thursday, 25 October 2018. I do encourage you to submit on these matters and have your say. For more information, please see:https://www.parliament.nz/en/pb/sc/make ... dment-bill
Once again, thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Bill. I value hearing from all New Zealanders on conservation matters.

Kind regards
Sarah Dowie MP
National’s spokesperson for Conservation"
