LAST YEAR IN GENERAL FLY FISHING > FLOODED RIVERS - JULY '17 (lots of photos) I WROTE OF THE DEMISE OF THIS BRIDGE .
IN YESTERDAYS ODT THIS ARTICLE APPEARED ......
https://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/brid ... d-collapse
THEN IN TODAYS ODT THIS WAS REPORTED .......
https://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/dcc/ ... ion-sutton
AT LEAST A NEW BRIDGE IS GOING AHEAD BUT ALAS NOT THE BEAUTIFUL OLD ONE THAT WAS . I CAN UNDERSTAND BOTH SIDES OF THIS DEBATE.
IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE LUCKY ANGLERS AROUND THE WORLD THAT HAS A PHOTO OF YOURSELF AND THE OLD BRIDGE THEN YOU HAVE
A GEM

Maybe Option 2? Gives a sense of remembrance for the old but allows for modern over-width farm equipment to use the new bridge.
Spent a lot of my school holidays fishing around that area as a kid, back when kids were allowed to do such things. Lucky to have a few piccy's of the old bridge too. Alas - no Taieri browns were ever caught.

OPTION 4
Building a new modern TWO LANE bridge and invest in the future. A nostalgic bridge is gone. Create a new one our great great grand children will admire.

The rebuild is already taking two first of government money. Local/regional share is only one third. But I agree, it is a non vote catcher, will not provoke a strike or a visit from the PM, so not votes, so no more money. But the mayors and Members will turn up for opening. The only true bidders in this issue are the local community board members, they DO know what the region needs.
