Fish jumping after released?

Post by drewsage » Wed Mar 15, 2017 6:37 pm

Recently caught a decent rainbow and managed to get a nice quick release. However, after releasing it, we noticed that a few minutes (~10) later the same (we think) fish was back in the same spot, but was now jumping clear out of the water. It went upstream once. Then quickly back down, then up, then back down again before it stopped. We thought maybe it was shocked at what just happened and was trying to get a look at us..... anybody else have this happen? What was the little fella doing?

Yip, happens often, they basically think they are still hooked (even though they aren't) and are jumping as a natural instinct to free that irritation in their jaw, it's very amusing sometimes!
