Good on you, Mike. Enjoy the serenity and the bigger freedom on the streams. Hope the speckled buggers are in good shape come spring.

Yes there will be any number of regulars that won't be able to make it this summer, and many, like yourself Sol, have been doing it for so long it's like a second home, so pretty tough. Still it's going to be interesting to see how the season pans out, it will be a great opportunity for Kiwis to enjoy some of those pressured waters that usually take a hammering, and also a chance for our fisheries managers to take note and see what learning may come from it.

Fishing by myself makes me feel at peace. I like it when fishing becomes meditative. Ive noticed during the quarantine that my rod was outdated and it sustained damage over years of usage. So I ordered a new one online. Im excited to finally use it this weekend. If anyone is looking to upgrade their rods, you should check this article.

Haha. I don’t need any more rods I have some many. Although the other week I managed to break one second cast of the morning at the Log Pool on the Tongariro which gives me an excuse to at least order a new section to re bind...

I’d suggest to anyone ...... if you haven’t .... or haven’t for a while .... head to Turangi. Wonderful river, well worth a visit any time of year. Take advantage of these strange times to experience an extraordinary river....

I visited for the first time in twenty years for ten days and loved every minute despite ripped Brand new waders, broken rods, torn face from a fall, a bomb buried deep in the arm, forgotten fly boxes..... amazing time, amazing river, and despite low and clear....... amazing fishing.. 😎

Youch! The Tongariro was where I discovered how fast one could duck, when the sound of a bomb about to smack you in the head is heard coming...
