This nymph goes back to the 80's and was created by Adrian Bell of Christchurch. The original Galah was lead wire weighted with a hump near the eye which was covered with pink yarn. Today, coloured beads are easier. We used it in all the Tongariro pools and had great success and because of its weight and slim profile it sank quickly. When the tandem rig came along, the Galah was great on the dropper in a size 14 – it still is using a plastic pink bead or small metal bead. Today the heavier weighted ones would be classed as Czech nymphs – that's fine with me - and that's how I'll use it.
