Swift Fly Fishing Company are marketing Bob Wyatt's deer hair emerger (DHE), snow foot hare emerger (SHE) and deer hair sedge (DHS) flies. Easy to tie or buy and so far are doing the business.
My reading suggests that the hair from the bottom of the hind feet of the snow foot hare (native to North America) is superior to CDC and deer hair in buoyancy and resiliency - but I can't find any sources in NZ - anyone know of one?

We have had them in the past, but they became unavailable from our supplier in the US, recently they have managed to source more, so will get some with our next animal product order - be doing this very soon so maybe 3 - 4 weeks away

Thanks Steve - sounded like the US wouldn't allow export of whole snowfoot hare feet anymore (endangered?) but the feet available in the UK were from Canada.

I often use the similar fur from the foot of the common Hare we have here... it certainly is a reasonable sub for emerger wings and bodies when used in a similar fashion as snow shoe hare .. nice olive-greenish hue to the base tan colour...

Quite common in US flyshops. You can find them online easily enough. For eg:
https://www.jsflyfishing.com/hareline-s ... abbit-feet
You would need to be conscious however of the importation issues if bringing them into NZ in a private order. Sometimes the border will let them through. Sometimes not. It’s the fact that the fur is attached to skin. Feathers and fur attached to skin can be frowned upon. And it’s not a hard and fast policy. Seems to depend on who is examining what and when.. I’ve had some stuff come through no issues and next time they won’t let it in and will destroy even if in proper packaging. You can gamble but maybe best to wait for Steve to source...
Which reminds me Steve. Is it Hareline you going through soon? If so let me know. I’ve got stuff to get!
