Rod tip repair
Hi guys - after an incident with a tree branch my Scott S4 is now a 5-piece, broken between the tip and the next guide. I bought it second hand on TradeMe so normal warranties won't apply. I have built two of the Epic ready to wrap kits so have some stuff and tempted to try some kind of repair myself. I'm guessing it will need something which fits inside the blank and then wrap it? I know there are a few gurus on here so thought I would ask.
Cheers
Andrew

Hi
I have found that even in this situation Scott via Manic Tackle Project will still look after you for a reasonable price. it would be worth asking the question at least.
Cheers Steve

Yeah make contact and see if they can sort...
you won't be able to repair the break, normal repair is a replacement section.
If it was the very tip you could just put a new tip guide on if you can get the right size but
If a couple of inches lost it will change the action.
Best bet try to get a new tip section!

Re: Rod tip repair
I broke the tip on my 5wt spey in the exact region and repaired it by epoxying a quality drill bit inside the sections then over binding with clear Kevlar thread, over lap the binding by 10mm approx. where the bit ends. Then I flex coat over the top. Not the prettiest repair but it worked until a replacement section came. It actually quickened the action of the rod so now have a spare backup section, when used with this repaired section on the Tonga I didn't baby it either. Give it a go you have nothing to loose and as you say you have the wrapping and epoxy

Thanks AJS. Your repair sounds very serviceable. Do you mean a steel drill bit?! I was thinking of something like this http://www.cstsales.com/Carbon_Fiber_Tubes.html - a thin bit of carbon fibre to fit inside.
I've dropped a line to manic to see what they come up with.

The boys at Manic are top notch! My guess is they will be able to help you out bro. And by far the best option!

Sleeve it as you suggest with a piece of carbon tube. If you can't get an internal piece, an external sleeve will work fine. I pick up broken rods all over the place for this purpose and have repaired many rods. Picked up two in the rubbish bin at Waikawa marina bay last year

Re: Rod tip repair
Have plenty of tips here if you want to sleeve it - Think I'm local (Wgtn/Lower Hutt)
But I'm sure the Manic boys can sort for you.

Yep a drill bit, they are quite flexible to an extent. Don't think the repair would take high sticking though
